GOLDEN OLDIES

Looking at Sports Illustrated. com today and came across this article from Jeff Pearlman.
The article focuses on 50 year old former american football player, willie Gault, who is looking to make a comeback in the NFL.

Gault, once one of the premier wide recievers and kick returners in the league last played 17 years ago but says he would be open to a return and claims he would still be one of the fastest players in the league. He ran the 100 meters in 10.72 in 2006

The story got me wondering was it possible. How long can athletes maintain careers in such physically demanding sports?

Well in 2007 James Hylton drove in the Daytona 500 for the last time as a 72 year old.

George Foreman won a world heavyweight title fight at 45 while Gault can look to fellow NFL alum Junior Seau who retired this year at 41 years of age.

In tennis Martina Navratilova sets the standard playing until the age of 49.

Who knows maybe Gault could pull it off.
