Premier Leagues underachievers

My friend and fellow blgger Philip Weafer came up with his top ten underrated players for this season a few weeks ago. You can see the masterpiece here.

I decided i'd follow up his great work by looking at the most overrated players in the premiership at the moment. So here it is your 09/10 Most overrated team.

GoalKeeper:Manuel Almunia

So bad that he's overrated even though nobody rates him. How he remains Arsenal's first choice is a mystery that only the golblin pushing the controls in Arsene Wenger's brain can understand. Backed up by Lukaz the dropper Fabianski Arsenal will never win the title until they replace Almunia.

Honourable mention: Rob Green(West Ham) could be England's number 1 at the World Cup this summer ... REALLY??

Left Back: Gareth Bale Tottenham

This seems harsh because Bale is an incredible attacking talent but their is a serious flaw to his game he can't defend. Touted as potentially the best left full in the premiership a few weeks ago his defensive fraelities have been exposed. May improve over time but id rather see him paired with Lennon on the wings for Spurs.

Honourable mention:

Centre Halfs: Rio Ferdinand (Man utd)

Ferdinand has missed much of the last two seasons with injury but it is clear that he's no longer the same player he was. His game is all about pace and instincts and he seems to be lacking both these days.

John Terry (Chelsea)

The departure of Claude Makelele brought the first signs that John Terry is not as good as advertised. Without his protection (Which John Terry needs more than most) Terry has been exposed as lacking pace and having questionable temperament. Couple that with his off field problems and you have a carachature of the great leader we knew as Mr. Chelsea.

Honourable mention: Kolo Toure, Matthew Upson: Arsene Wenger knew what he was doing getting rid of with these two.

Right back: Branislav Ivanovic Chelsea

Solid but is he really worthy of being in the team of the year? Has no one been watching Stephen Carr ?????

Left Midfield: Gareth Barry Manchester City

Not rubbish by any means but not as good as advertised. Too content to sit in the middle and lacking creativity. Barry cost Man City twelve million last summer and Liverpool offered more than that the year before. Martin O Niell is a great manger but why he was so eager to keep him is beyond me. Maybe he knew he was going to buy Stuart downing with the money

Central Midfield:

Michael Ballack Chelsea

Was hailed rightly as one of the best in the world on arrival to the Premiership in 2006 but at 33 his age appears to be catching up with him. Looks uncomfortable at times dealing with the frenetic tempo of the Premiership.

Michael Carrick Man utd

Getting replaced in the staring line up by Darren Gibson is never a good sign Sir Alex has begun the process of showing Carrick the door and rumour has it that he could return to Tottenham as a swap for Luca Modric.

Right Midfield: David Bentley Totenham

Their was a time in the not to distant past when David Bentley was hailed as the new David Beckham. Now the only thing they have in common is a name and a love of stupid haircuts.

Forwards
Dimitar Berbatov Man Utd

The much maligned striker was sensational for Spurs to the point where Fergie was willing to fork out £30 million for him. However the Bulgarian who had a decent first season at united has fallen apart late this year. Suffering from a crisis of comfidence and moving slower than a Nissan Micra through rush hour traffic Berbatov has been completely incapable of finishing even the easiest chances in recent weeks.

Emile Heskey Aston Villa

The former Liverpool man continues to be tipped as a possible candidate for the England squad this summer despite a complete inability to perform the most basic function for all strikers, scoring goals. With 5 goals in almost 50 appearances since joining Villa from Wigan, Heskey has proved himself to be that rarest of things an in demand defensive striker.
