Masters Day 4

Phil Mickelson produced one of the most impressive final rounds ever seen at the Masters to cruise to a three shot victory over Lee Westwood and clinch his third green jacket.

Mickelson's bogey free 67 was a mixture of workmanlike course management coupled with the kind of creative genius he is famous for.

His second shot to the par five thirteenth would have gone down in masters history along with Larry Mize pitch, Faldo's putt or Tiger's chip had he not one so comfortably.

In putting together such an impressive performance Mickelson reduced Amen corner to a leisurly stroll and once Tiger Woods roar turned into a meoiw with a three putt from kick in distance on 14 Mickelson was home and dry.

Earlier in the day both Fred Couples and K.J Choi had made brave charges before faltering when the pressure was at it's most intense.

In all this praise for Mickelson it's hard not feel sorry for poor lee Westwood. The affable Englishman one of the nicest guys on tour and a perrenial plucky runner up at Major tournaments in recent times seemed to tire in the Gerogia heat perhaps suffering from the weigth of the B.B.C commentary box strapped to his shoulders.

He would eventually have to settle for the role of brief runner up. Although I did enjoy the snippet of hope Peter Allis maintained till the Last

" Now if Phil was to hit one out of Bounds and Lee Birdies that could change things"he breathed but alas Lee was the bridesmade once more.
