ROG's letter

Since last week Ireland out half Ronan O Gara has been engaged in a back and forth with Journalist (loosely speaking) Kevin Myers over a piece Myers wrote in reaction to Irelands defeat to France where he claimed that selecting O Gara in the side was a recipe for failure.

Although the article was mainly about the how we Irish are too comfortable with failure Myers took a couple of pretty harsh digs at O Gara likening his defence to Supermodel Kate Moss and saying that coach Declan Kidney did not want to win the match and that hi selection of O Gara proved as much.

O Gara who is rarely short of an opinion fired back writing a letter to the editor of the Independent slating Myers for his inexpert opinions and a lack of balance. Clearly O Gara has never read Myers before or he'd be aware that Kevin Myers is in fact an expert on every subject.

Myers responded saying "you don't need to be a carpenter to see the chair keeps falling over" and branded all those who complained about his story infantile saying they proved his point.

It is important to note their is previous in this situation as Myers heavily criticised O Gara for standing with his hands in his pockets while meeting the Queen of England last year, calling him a lout.

One cant argue that O Gara's tackling is hardly a strong point and he probably shouldn't be bothered responding with a big game coming up against England but his psyche certainly is not one that appears comfortable with failure.

Although seen as Kevin Myers appears to consider his day a failure if he hasn't sparked national outrage by lunch time and he's clearly not comfortable with failure either.

Was O Gara right to respond ??
